If you were on the internet in the early to mid 90's you witnessed the dawn of the e-commerce age. I remember a time when only large ISPs such as AOL were making money online and everyone else was scrambling to figure out how to make online sales. At that time, people were very reluctant to make online purchases because of the fear of someone "Stealing" their credit card information. Now days, most people realize that an encrypted online transaction is probably the safest financial transaction on earth. The transformation really took place between 1998 and 2001 as consumers became educated and businesses all rushed to move their businesses online. Those who participated in the shift went from penniless wishful thinkers to successful business owners earning six figure incomes almost over night. In other words, we were in front of a major trend that was obviously going to materialize.

Right now, online video marketing is in the exact spot that e-commerce was back in 1998. Plunging bandwidth costs, the proliferation of broadband access and high profile web sites such as YouTube have created the perfect environment for an explosion in Video usage. Most people right now are focused on creating funny or sensational videos that generate buzz and traffic, but those of us who have been through transitions before realize the money is in marketing. I believe Google's $1.6 Billion purchase of YouTube awakened the corporate giants and the media has increased coverage dramatically. It is my sense that we are about to witness a video boom that will transform the internet into a multi-media communication tool over the next 3-4 years.

The question is: "How can you profit from this shift?"

The number one way to profit from any technological shift is to first become educated. Learning how to create, encode, compress and stream video as well as audio content will be the key to success in the coming years. Thousands of small to mid-sized companies will be searching for expertise to transform their current static web sites into multi-media web sites. taking a few hours of your time to learn these skills, you will be in a position to command top dollar from those who need these expertise. The same rules will apply to video marketing, in fact the initial setup strategy will be even more important in video marketing than with Internet marketing in general.

Everyone I talk with seems to know that video is coming of age, but it seems that 98% of them are procrastinating for one reason or other. My advise is to dive in on a small scale, experiment a bit and definitely take the time to learn what it's all about.
