Awarded Gold Medal in the United States, the new Cuban rum named Barrel Proof seems to offer unique joy and smoothness to the most demanding tastes in the entire world, despite its 45 alcohol degrees.
This spirit received the golden award with the mention of “Exceptional” in a contest in Chicago (International Review of Spirits 2004, B.T.I.) facing 56 of the best rums in the world.
And, a little after, during a meeting with the media in Havana, some executives from the firm Havana Club International S.A. confirmed these achievements.
That is why; the Cuban Barrel is among the greatest products of that company such as the Añejo 15 years and the 7 years, maybe the most liked, although they are only found in the Duty Free of any country or at the museum of Rum in the Habana Vieja, with prices around the 38 dollars the one liter bottle.
Cuba Ron and Pernod Ricard signed in 1993 an agreement through which they founded Havana Club International S.A. with the French leading and the mission of spreading out the Cuban rum in the world.
This enterprise also faced the litigation with the North American rum producer of Cuban origin Bacardí, gaining a success in register matters. Although, the biggest triumph is the selling of at least 2 million nine-bottle packs per year, according to the latest figures, and the strong impact in European markets.

That is the principle of this spirit that has the seal of José Navarro, the most important rum master in Cuba, crafter of the new era with rum such as the Havana Club with origins in the 19th century.
As a novelty, its producers promote it with the kindness of being bottled directly from the barrel, without purification or dilution, which is the origin of its name.

Now Havana Club comprises a line of 8 rums: Añejo Blanco, Añejo 3 años, Añejo Oro, Añejo Especial, Añejo 7 Años, Cuban Barrel Proof, Añejo 15 Años and San Cristóbal de la Habana; all of them made in Santa Cruz del Norte, a fishermen and agriculture town near the sugar cane plantations in the northern area between Havana and Matanzas.
The proofs and awards were given to Barrel by The Beverage Tasting Institute (BTI) of Chicago, founded in 1981 aimed at generating just and uncompromised information about these spirits for consumers.
